When you start a blog for your business or organisation, it can be hard to choose the right blogging platform because there is so much choice.

And a lot of these platforms are free too! Here’s a list of 23 free blogging plaforms + another 10 to top it off.

So, now what?

Well, let me just tell you what my platform of choice is: it’s WordPress. Why? Because it’s the bomb!

It’s reliable, easy to use and has a big support community. But! There are two kinds of WordPress platforms. So:

What’s the difference between WordPress.org and WordPress.com?

WordPress.org is self-hosted, meaning you need to get a hosting package and find help from an IT person to upload and install WordPress on the servers of the hosting provider.

WordPress.com is free. You register online, and you can be blogging in minutes!

What to choose for business?

Simple: WordPress.org (self-hosted).

Reason: you have more flexibility in terms of design and themes. You can use any plugin available on the market. And you can place your blog under any URL you want. Either integrated or separate from your corporate website.

In addition: you have more control over the content. All the content is on the server space you have hired for it. With free blogging services you also own it, but it’s in someone else’s house: under their terms & conditions.
